The BJP on Wednesday accused the Delhi government of failing to provide free ration to 72 lakh ration cardholders in the Capital under a Central scheme during the lockdown and demanded its immediate implementation.
Led by Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta and Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, BJP MLAs went to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to present a memorandum but were not allowed to meet him, they alleged.
The memorandum stated that due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had allocated free rations for 72 lakh ration cardsholders for the month of May and June under the Pradhan Mantri Kalyan Anna Yojana.

Financial assistance of ₹5,000 to be provided to 1.56 lakh auto and taxi drivers
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that the Delhi government will provide free ration to all the 72 lakh ration cardholders of the Capital for the next two months. He also announced that the government will provide financial assistance of ₹5,000 to every auto and taxi driver in the city like last year, wherein 1.56 lakh drivers had received one-time financial assistance.
During a digital press briefing, he said: “We have taken two major decisions. Firstly, free ration will be provided to the around 72 lakh ration cardholders of Delhi for the next two months. One should not assume that the lockdown will continue for the next two months. Let us hope that the cases begin to decrease and the lockdown is lifted early.”

The BJP on Monday urged Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to increase COVID testing and number of vaccination centres for those aged between 18-44 years. It also asked the L-G to give permission to civic bodies to increase the number of hospital beds and set up new vaccination centres.
Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta termed “surprising” that the Delhi government had, so far, set up just 77 vaccination centres for the youth across the 11 districts of the city. Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri demanded that the Delhi government open 10 vaccination centres each in all the Assembly segments and it should be ensured the vaccine is made available to all without problem.

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri on Tuesday accused the Delhi government of aiding and abetting the black marketing of Remdesivir injections in the Capital. He demanded that these be distributed to patients through hospitals and not chemists as it had led to massive escalation in its price and non-availability for the common man.
Mr. Bidhuri said the Delhi government got a supply of 72,000 Remdesivir injections on April 24, priced at ₹1,800 per injection. However, instead of distributing it to patients at ICU in the hospitals as recommended by its doctors, the Delhi government was instead pushing patients’ loved ones to go around to 30 chemists leading to black marketing and escalation in the price of the injection.
Bidhuri said the Delhi government should increase the number of tests which is considered one of the most effective ways to fight Covid
NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri on Sunday said the Kejriwal government has been reducing the number of Covid tests in the last few days to hide the true numbers of Covid infected population.
“The number of Covid tests which crossed one lakh a few days ago has now been brought down to 75,000 by the AAP government. This is being done under a plan to show less number of infected people. However, Covid cases have continued to rise and imagine if more than one lakh tests were carried out, what would be the true picture of the crisis in Delhi,” Bidhuri said in a statement, adding that the number of tests was being reduced purposely to hide the government’s failure in controlling the Covid situation.
