The annual report of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has found that religious freedom in India continued its negative trajectory in 2021.
The country-specific findings for India were shared by the USCIRF on Wednesday via its Twitter account. The government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), promoted Hindu nationalist policies resulting in systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations of religious freedom, read the report.

COLOMBO: The latest annual report of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has designated India as a “country of particular concern,” and has suggested targeted sanctions on individuals and entities responsible for severe violations of religious freedom by freezing those individuals’ or entities’ assets and/or barring their entry into the United States.”
The report covering events in 2020, accuses India of “engaging in and tolerating systematic, ongoing, and egregious religious freedom violations, as defined by the International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA).”
Renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Wahiduddin passes away

HYDERABAD, India: Renowned Islamic scholar and peace activist Maulana Wahiduddin Khan passed away at 96 on Wednesday evening, foreign media reported.
He was admitted in serious condition to Apollo Hospital Sarita Vihar, Delhi, and had tested positive for COVID-19 last week. The scholar’s son Zafarul Islam Khan (former Chairman, Delhi Minorities Commission) took to Twitter and shared the news about Khan’s demise. “The great Islamic scholar Maulana Wahiduddin Khan breathed his last, late this evening. Doctors failed to revive his sinking heart. Pray for his maghfirat and high station in Paradise. Amin,” he wrote.
