A coalition of Indian Sikh leaders demanded the Indian federal territory of Jammu and Kashmir enact laws against “love jihad,” or the alleged forced conversion of non-Muslim women to Islam by Muslim men, this week after unconfirmed reports emerged that Muslim men had “forced” Sikh women to convert to Islam, the Quint reported on Wednesday.
“A delegation of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) led by its president Manjinder Singh Sirsa, arrived in [the Jammu and Kashmir city of] Srinagar on Sunday, 27 June, and staged a protest in the city,” the Quint reported on June 30. The group of Sikh leaders from India’s National Capital Territory, Delhi which administers Jammu and Kashmir urged Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to promote a new law that would ban forced religious conversions as a pretext for inter-faith marriages.

AMRITSAR/AMBALA: Outrage over the alleged abduction, conversion and forced marriage of two Kashmiri Sikh girls to older men appeared to ebb somewhat on Tuesday when one of them started a new chapter in her life post-rescue by tying the knot with a Srinagar-based youth from the community. As the search continued for the other girl, pressure mounted on the administration from the Akal Takht and leaders of the Sikh community to bring an anti-conversion law in J&K on the lines of those in UP, Haryana, HP and MP.

NEW DELHI: A delegation of Sikh leaders met Minister of State (Home) G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday to discuss the alleged forced conversion and wedding of Sikh women in Jammu and Kashmir. The delegation comprising BJP spokesperson and former BJP MLA from Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar RP Singh, Jago Party president Manjit Singh GK and others submitted a memorandum seeking a strong anti-conversion law.
