Delhi Records Highest 24-Hour Rainfall in May Since 1976
Delhi recorded its highest rainfall since 1976 and lowest temperature since 1951 in the month of May because of Cyclone Tauktae s impact. Along with this, the city recorded an AQI of 78.

New Delhi:Â Delhi on Wednesday recorded 60 mm rainfall till 8:30 pm, the highest 24-hour precipitation in May in 35 years, under the impact of cyclonic storm ‘Tauktae’ and a western disturbance, the India Meteorological Department said.
The city also recorded a maximum temperature of 23.8 degrees Celsius, 16 notches below normal and the lowest in the month of May since 1951, the IMD said.

As per IMD s rainfall classification system, below 15 mm is light, 15-64.5 mm is moderate, 64.5 mm-115.5 mm is heavy and 115.6 mm-204.4mm is very heavy. Extreme heavy refers to rainfall above 204.4 mm.
The heavy rains resulted from an interaction between Tauktae and a western disturbance, the IMD said in a release.
In the wake of cyclone Tauktae and a western disturbance, Delhi today saw temperature falling to 16 notches below normal.
The maximum temperature in the capital city between 8:30 am on Wednesday and 8:30 am on Thursday was recorded at 23.8 degrees Celsius, the lowest for May since 1951.
The minimum temperature was at 19.3 degrees Celsius, which is seven notches below normal.
