The Delhi government has set up a panel of medical experts to look into cases of death of patients reportedly due to a shortage of oxygen during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Friday.
If the panel ascertains that the death of a patient has occurred due to a shortage of oxygen, then the Delhi government will give a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased, he said.
In an online briefing, he said the file has been sent to Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal and the panel will start functioning once the L-G approves it.
Amid rising cases of black fungus in the national capital, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal has issued regulations under the Epidemic Diseases Act to contain and manage cases of the deadly mucormycosis in the city, according to a government notification released on Thursday. The Delhi Epidemic Diseases (Mucormycosis) Regulations, 2021, which will be valid for a year from the date of publication, states that all healthcare facilities, government or private, will report each and every suspected or confirmed cases of black fungus in the national capital to the city health department. All healthcare facilities in Delhi will follow guidelines for screening, diagnosis and management of black fungus issued by the Health Ministry, it said.

In view of experts warning that a Covid-19 third wave is inevitable in the country and that it will affect children the most, the Delhi government has decided to set up a special task force that will look after the situation and tell the departments about the necessary steps required to be taken to combat the pandemic and protect children. Besides, the government will also set up a team of officials to ensure the supply of medicines, oxygen and beds.
