Twin Cedars Splits in BGC Tournament

After their Bluegrass Conference tournament games were delayed Monday due to the weather, both Twin Cedars basketball teams resumed play Wednesday. The Sabers girls lost to Moravia 38-26 and the boys defeated Orient-Macksburg 55-36. The Sabers girls were in their first game of the tournament and lost their opener to the Mohawks, who bested Twin Cedars last month in their first meeting. Rylee Dunkin led the team in points with 10 and rebounds with 11 for a double-double. The Sabers boys had a trio reach double figures: Devin Arkema had 17, Dallas Clark had 15, and Kade Dunkin had 13. Both squads will play again Thursday. The Sabers girls will face Diagonal at Mormon Trail starting at 6:00 and the boys will host Moulton-Udell at 7:30.

Twin Cedars Sweeps Orient-Macksburg

Coming off a sweep of Tri-County Thursday night, Twin Cedars repeated that effort Friday against Orient-Macksburg on the road. The Sabers girls won 52-45 in overtime and the boys came out on top 46-32. In the first half of the double header, Twin Cedars’ Brooke Roby went off for 29 points and 10 rebounds. Cheyanne Bruns added another 13, including three shots from beyond the arc. This was the Sabers’ fifth game in seven days, and they went 5-0 in them to improve to 9-6. Head Coach Trent Verwers praised his girls for keeping their composure after a subpar defensive performance that saw their wire to wire lead vanish in the closing moments of regulation.

Twin Cedars Sweeps Tri-County

Twin Cedars basketball played in their fourth double header since Saturday, and got their first sweep Thursday night at Tri-County. The Sabers girls won 37-24 and the boys bested the Trojans 56-46. The Sabers girls had a tight contest for the first three quarters, but outscored Tri-County by eight points in the final eight minutes to get their fourth win in six days. Cheyanne Bruns led the way with 17 points, nearly half of the team’s total. Twin Cedars continues to build to their best record in nearly a decade as they’ve yet to lose a game in the new year. With all this winning, Head Coach Trent Verwers says that this is a pivotal moment for his program, especially with most key players set to return for another year.

Twin Cedars Heads to Tri-County Tonight

Twin Cedars Splits at Seymour

Twin Cedars had their first home matchup since their return to play Tuesday and they once again had a split. The Sabers girls bested Seymour 42-40 and the boys fell 51-48 in a couple of nail biting games in Bussey. Cheyanne Burns led the team in scoring with 13 points to go with four steals and four blocks. Brooke Roby added another 12 points and added eight rebounds. Twin Cedars held on despite losing three of their four top scorers in the fourth quarter due to fouling out and an injury. At 7-6 overall (5-2 in conference), the Sabers have their best record since 2012 at this point of the season.
