Riding on Mercedes-Benz s new Electric Vehicle Architecture, two EQS variants will be available at launch: the rear-wheel-drive EQS 450+, and the all-paw EQS 580 4Matic.
A single eATS electric motor assembly on the rear axle powers the entry-level 450+ model, sending 245kW and
6.2-second 0-100km/h sprint time, and a 210km/h electronically-limited top speed.
Meanwhile, the flagship 580 4Matic adds another electric motor on the front axle, combining to send
385kW and
4.3-second 0-100km/h dash and an identical 210km/h top speed limiter.
A Torque Shift torque-vectoring system helps spread power across the front and rear axles as needed, up to 10,000 times per minute – though its capabilities won t be fully realised until the

Enthusiasts want more power, and tuners big and small will bring it to them.
It seems a new manufacturer (rightly) jumps on the electrified bandwagon every day. Jaguar has promised to electrify its fleet, Audi is taking its bread-and-butter A4 and A5 are adding volts and Volkswagen, well, you know what it did. But right now, it seems like we re at polar ends as enthusiasts.
There are cheaper hybrid and electric vehicles like the Toyota Prius and VW ID.4, and then insane electric supercars like the Porsche Taycan and McLaren P1. But in a decade or two, when the kids are driving used Nissan Leafs and Toyota Priuses and Chevy Bolts, what will they be able to do improve performance, beyond tires and suspension?
Pricing And Competition
The 2021 Porsche Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo carries a steep MSRP of $153,500, and that s before delving into the extensive options list. It s $2,400 more expensive than the Taycan Turbo. For the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo, expect to pay $187,600. A destination fee of $1,350 applies but both are expected to qualify for a federal tax credit.
There are no direct competitors to the Taycan Cross Turismo, so it s unique as the only EV wagon on the market. However, one can t ignore the Tesla Model S Plaid+, which is more powerful, quicker, has a much longer range, and starts at $139,990. Another contender is the upcoming Lucid Air Dream Edition with 1,080 hp, a 503-mile range, and a starting price of $161,500. The Audi RS6 Avant is a fantastic wagon but is conventionally-powered and starts at a much lower $109,000.
