Officials paused search and rescue operations at the site of the partially collapsed condo building in Surfside, Fla., on Saturday, as crews prepare to demolish the portion that still stands.
Twenty-four people been confirmed killed; 121 remain unaccounted for.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said in a press conference that search efforts were paused at 4 p.m., and that the unstable building poses a threat to the people involved in ongoing search operations.
An incoming storm has heightened concerns.

Officials in south Florida are confirming search and rescue efforts in the deadly condo collapse are being paused.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said the halt in Surfside comes as demolition preparations are underway at the site of the collapse. She said there s no timeline on the demolition, but engineers have determined the search must stop. She said there is a threat to the building that s still standing.
Levine Cava also noted officials are keeping an eye on Tropical Storm Elsa and its potential impacts on the region.

An email posted on the town s website revealed Chouela sent Prieto two reports: the structural field survey report conducted by engineer
Frank Morabito of Morabito Consultants in October 2018 and a mechanical and electrical engineering report by

Additionally, Chouela introduced Prieto at a meeting with five of the seven board members, which was also attended by property manager
Alexandria Santamaria, condo board lawyer
Marilyn Perez and condominium residents interested in participating in the building s recreation room.
Records released Sunday showed Prieto sent an email to then-town manager
Guillermo Olmedillo on the morning after the meeting to report it went very well and that the response was very positive from everyone in the room, adding that he was impressed with the proactive approach of the condo association to its upcoming required 40-year recertification,
