Audio plays revive Williamstown Theatre Festival season, lost to COVID

Like the rest of the theater world, the Williamstown Theatre Festival has spent a year shut down. But that gave it the chance to put a season’s worth of adapted-for-audio productions online with Audible Originals, where you can reach them without a three-hour drive to northwestern Massachusetts. As with any theater season, some plays are better than others, though all feature first-rate casts (some of them with big names), as well as top-notch sound effects and interesting post-show interviews with playwright, director or both. As a whole, it’s quite an achievement.  And the full seven-play season is included with an Audible Plus online membership, $7.95 a month.

Israeli equestrienne is making Olympic history, with unmistakable flair

Courtesy of Eric Sultan Equestrian events are the only Olympic sport where both men and women compete together. ‘And they don’t discriminate against the horse’s sex either,’ Goldstein said. Danielle Goldstein Waldman attracts attention wherever she goes, even when she isn’t riding the horse on which she hopes to compete in the 2020 Olympics, which will be held in Tokyo this summer. The thousands of colored feathers the championship-winning show jumper wears woven into her hair have earned her the social media hashtag #FlyingFeathers for the way they flow behind her when she’s riding. While Israel’s equestrian team has not yet announced the four athletes who will represent it in Tokyo, barring injury, Waldman – known as Dani – is certain to be on it, sources say. It will be the champion rider’s first Olympics and the first Olympics in which Israel has qualified to compete in equestrian events. Which it did partly thanks to Waldman’s performance in the qualifie

Row An Inspirational New Musical That Is Also Fun and Entertaining

5:38 It’s not often you get to write a review that is also a preview. However, since the Williamstown Theatre Festival’s world premiere of the musical “Row” has just been released by Audible Theatre and almost simultaneously with the release it was announced it would be given a live production at the festival this summer, this is a two-for-one recommendation for the show. “Row” is one of the most satisfying works I’ve encountered in a very long time as the material works on many levels. It effectively captures the excitement of Tori Murden trying to be the first woman to row alone across the Atlantic Ocean. Even more important, it captures the soul of an individual who despite amazing personal accomplishments needs a type of monastic journey to find peace and satisfaction with her life.
