Plainfield dog attack victim still hopes for change

CANTERBURY Lynne Denning doesn’t want your pity. The 62-year-old Canterbury resident who barely survived a vicious 2014 dog attack in Plainfield is still petitioning for changes in animal owner laws, though she admits she’s getting tired. “I look at myself and I don’t see the damage, just the age,” she said. “But I haven’t given up.” On Dec. 3, 2014, Denning, then a home health aide working in a Plainfield home on Putnam Road, was mauled by dogs belonging to resident Jenna Allen. During a four-day bench trial of Allen she was later found guilty of first- and second-degree reckless endangerment and served 60 days in jail  in Danielson Superior Court in May 2017, Denning testified that Allen’s dogs without warning lunged at her face before tearing at her torso and extremities.

A Pennsylvania man is accused of trying to break into a Moosup store

PLAINFIELD - A 34-year-old Pennsylvania man was charged this morning with trying to break into a Plainfield grocery store, police said. At approximately 2:26 a.m., police were called to the Sam’s Food Store at 219 Main St. in the Moosup section of town for a report of a suspicious man trying to gain entry to the building. Police said Jeffrey Liebel, of Levittown, Pa., was found at the scene where the store’s front doors were cracked and pry-bar marks were observed. Police said they found several hand tools in Liebel’s vehicle. A review of surveillance footage showed Liebel making several attempts to pry open the store’s locked doors, police said.

Lease agreement between state and Killingly reflects maintenance costs

KILLINGLY - After months of negotiations, the town and the state of Connecticut have hammered out a new lease agreement concerning courthouse parking areas that for the first time in more than 20 years includes an escalation rider aimed at keeping up with rising maintenance costs. The Town Council this month approved a 10-year lease agreement that will continue to allow court-related parking in the 50-space lot off Center Street directly across from Danielson Superior Court. The contract replaces a month-to-month agreement between the town and state Department of Administrative Services that began in July 2019 after the previous lease agreement expired. Under the new contract, the state will pay the town $9,000 a month for the first five years – the same amount as the monthly agreement stipulated – and $9,450 for years six through 10.

Plainfield man accused of threatening to murder officer

PLAINFIELD A 23-year-old Plainfield man threatened to “murder” a Plainfield police officer while being transported for treatment following a drunken domestic incident involving a firearm, police said. The arrest of Ryan Schroth, a resident of the Moosup section of town, came a day after police said they found him “highly intoxicated and uncooperative” while responding to a report of a domestic disturbance between a male and female at Schroth’s residence where a child was present. Police said an investigation revealed Schroth had a loaded firearm in his possession before officers arrived at the scene. Police said Schroth’s arrest was delayed until Tuesday morning due to his being transported Sunday to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. He was arrested by warrant at his home at 5:10 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
