Fitchburg police arrest man in connection with hit-and-run involving 7-year-old girl

FITCHBURG, Wis. Fitchburg police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run crash from Sunday.
A news release said a detective with the police department found the suspect’s vehicle abandoned in a parking lot Monday more than one mile away from the crash scene. Investigators collected other evidence and identified the driver who was allegedly involved.
Alexander Hernandez Gutierrez, 18, was was taken into custody without incident Wednesday and booked into the Dane County Jail for a probation violation. Officials said a charge of felony hit-and-run causing injury and citations for operating after revocation, operating without insurance and failure to notify police of an accident will likely be sent to the Dane County District Attorney’s Office by the end of the week.

As the month opens, the UW chapter of the Friends of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee is raising bail money and gathering supplies for the so-called Freedom Summer voter registration drive in the Deep South. Several UW students have already been arrested, including former student Andrew Goodman, who has been missing since his arrest with two other activists in late June.

th, the UW and three historically Black colleges and universities convene their Committee on Cooperation to start planning a ground-breaking faculty exchange program funded by the Carnegie Foundation. Local faculty will visit three schools in North Carolina and Texas for stays ranging from a week to a full year in residence while the Black faculty will come north for insights into new methods of instruction and administration – and to enlighten the UW faculty about the unique problems they face in the segregated S
