SEMINARS A SUCCESS As usual, there were a pair of well-attended seminars on racing topics: Friday was on “Chevy Thunder,” the history of Chevrolet’s small-block V-8 engine, introduced in 1955, with the basic architecture still in use today. Panelists included moderator Ray Evernham, racer Dale Earnhardt, Jr., former GM racing head Herb Fishel, NASCAR’s Dr. Eric Warren, and racers David Hobbs, Brian Redman and George Follmer.

Updated: 7:28 PM EDT May 23, 2021 WILKESBORO, N.C. News of potentially reviving the North Wilkesboro Speedway, an iconic former NASCAR track, has the town of Wilkesboro buzzing with excitement. NC Governor Roy Cooper proposed on Wednesday $10 million to revamp North Wilkesboro Speedway, located in Wilkes County about five miles east of Downtown Wilkesboro. The investment set forth is part of the proposal for how to spend $5.7 billion allocated to North Carolina as part of the federal American Rescue Plan.  Proposed renovations include speedway repaving, dragway and facility upgrades, fixing walkways, new bathrooms, repairing grandstands, erosion control, and extending water and wastewater infrastructure.

Decade of Difference: Jr Jr

Beginning in 2011, Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr worked to deliver festival friendly music with a nod to both folk and 60’s pop. The band formed in Detroit for fun – none of the founders ever expected to take the band public – but they did with their first full length album coming in 2011. The original band name, Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr was an indication of the band mates lack of focus on a public image. The name was selected as a joke, and a way to reduce expectations of what the band should be. Who knows what a band with that name should sound like?
