Convicted killer Coffey gets second chance at parole

Jeffrey B. Coffey Prosecutors statewide were blindsided earlier this week by news that the Kentucky Parole Board is giving nearly 50 violent offenders another shot at parole. On Wednesday, the Commonwealth s Attorneys Association learned that the state parole board had issued a new directive on April 1 nearly six weeks before that offenders with life sentences can no longer be issued a serve out during their first parole hearing. The new rule would be to defer parole eligibility at that initial hearing for no longer than 120 months, or 10 years. The issuance of a serve out at that first hearing is expressly prohibited.

Clearwater to spend up to $11 2M on new operations center for police department

CLEARWATER — The city will pay up to $11.2 million to construct a new operations and training center for its police department. That was the decision April 15 of the City Council, which voted 5-0 to approve a contract for Ajax Building Co. of Oldsmar to rebuild the District 3 Operations and Training Center at 2851 McMullen-Booth Road, which is across the street from Countryside High School. The new facility will also be the city’s first building rated to withstand a Category 5 hurricane with wind of 157 mph or higher, meaning the public safety personnel will use it as its emergency operations center for future storms.

Local man accepts plea agreement for role in fatal wreck

Terry L. Hensley A local man charged with murder in connection to a fatal 2019 wreck has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge. Terry Lynn Hensley, 48, of Nancy, pleaded guilty last Thursday to first-degree Manslaughter after participating in criminal mediation earlier in the week. The charge stemmed from a fatal car wreck that occurred in the early morning hours of February 4, 2019, at the intersection of Grande Avenue and East Mt. Vernon Street in downtown Somerset. According to what the Somerset Police Department reported at the time, Hensley was driving a 1996 Honda Civic north on Grande Avenue at a high rate of speed when the vehicle crossed East Mt. Vernon and struck a utility pole.

Another high-profile Instagram influencer has been slapped on the wrist by Australia s advertising watchdog over a sponsored post that wasn t properly distinguished as an advert. Rozalia Russian s post on January 14 promoting a Tom Ford perfume was determined to be an advert - but there was no hashtag indicating this and so it was in violation of the Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA) Code of Ethics. According to marketing website Mumbrella, the panel noted Ms Russian s post was clearly a paid advertisement for Tom Ford but lacked transparency in regard to this.
