Evergy proposal for minimum bills could open door for other utilities

By The Editorial Advisory Board Claims made earlier this month at a Kansas Corporation Commission meeting by the utility Evergy and solar energy advocates can be difficult to sort through. And trust us, deep dives into the working of utility bills aren’t the hottest reads. Yet what transpired at the meeting is important, in broad strokes, because of what it says about our energy system and where we’re headed as a state. Essentially, Evergy wants those who have installed solar arrays at their homes to either pay a fee or for everyone to pay some sort of minimum bill, regardless of the amount of energy they actually use from the grid. The company claims these customers, who can either supplement the grid with power of their own or take power when needed, add different kinds of costs.
