Fitchburg and Leominster get PPE donations to help fight COVID-19

Leominster Champion With the number of positive COVID-19 cases on the rise across the region, officials in Fitchburg and Leominster are thankful for the recent donation of personal protective equipment to their cities. John Chen, global president and CEO of Mascon, Inc. in Woburn, presented Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella and Fitchburg Mayor Stephen DiNatale with more than 250,000 masks, gowns, face shields, goggles, hand sanitizing wipes, and electrostatic sprayers to disinfect surfaces. Those items, delivered to last week’s presentation at the Leominster Office of Emergency Management, are vital as the Twin Cities enter their 10th month of battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

City of Leominster to offer four days of free testing for COVID

The City of Leominster is offering four days of free testing for the virus that causes COVID-19. A mobile testing location will be set up at Doyle Field on Monday, Dec. 21 and Monday, Dec. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Friday, Dec. 18 and Tuesday, Dec. 22 from 2-7 p.m. Proof of insurance is not required. Anyone wishing to be tested for COVID-19 should use Main Street (Route 13) to enter onto Priest Street. The testing will occur next to the tennis courts, and involve two 10-second nose swabs. People being tested will leave their name and contact information so they can receive their test results within a few days.

Santa Claus to bring joy to Leominster neighborhoods

Leominster Champion If Leominster residents cannot visit Santa Claus this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, then Santa Claus will visit them  with a little help from the city’s firefighters.  After closed-door meetings with the City of Leominster and representatives from the North Pole, Leominster Firefighters Local 1841 has announced special visits by Jolly Ol’ St. Nicholas himself over the next couple of weeks.  Santa and his elves will be on board the Leominster Fire Department’s Ladder 2 as they visit neighborhoods throughout the city Sunday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 20 starting at 5 p.m.   “The routes are a short walk from most homes and will pass all City schools and many shopping plazas should you wish to take a short drive to find the best viewing spot,” stated the firefighters’ announcement on Facebook.
