At least 157,000 people in long-term care facilities in New York have received a COVID-19 vaccine shot as part of the effort to protect those most vulnerable to the respiratory disease, according to federal data.
The latest tally of vaccinations among residents and staff at nursing homes and assisted living facilities comes from the federal program tapping CVS, Walgreens and other pharmacies to provide shots of the COVID vaccines developed by Pfizer-BioNtech and Moderna.
Overall, about 193,300 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered inside the long-term care facilities across New York so far, including 33,788 people who have received both shots as required, according to the most recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data on Tuesday.

The first five weeks of the COVID-19 vaccine supply in New York was poised to run dry Friday, marking the transition to a reliance on new deliveries of doses that are expected to remain far below demand during coming months, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.
The announcement came after Cuomo warned earlier in the week that many vaccination sites statewide would soon exhaust their supply of the COVID-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna.
By Friday afternoon, Cuomo said the first five weeks of supply was on track to be entirely depleted by day s end, though shipments for the sixth week of the vaccination program had already begun arriving from the federal government.
