When you see headlines involving fraud, forgery and the elderly, most stories explain how the older adults are often taken advantage of. One man recently pleaded guilty to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from his grandmother while another man reportedly defrauded an elderly woman with dementia out of millions by posing as her son. However, a case in North Carolina is flipping the narrative around.

Updated: 4:23 PM EDT May 24, 2021 Kayla Berenson Several Davidson County deputies shot and killed a suspect on Saturday afternoon.Deputies responded to the 8900 block of Highway 150 South near the Churchland community around 1 p.m. in reference to a call about several people shooting at each other. Officials say that when deputies arrived, Adam Hartley pointed a gun at them and ran into the woods. Deputies chased after Hartley and ordered him to drop the gun, but Hartley shot at the deputies, investigators say.The officers returned fire, which hit Hartley.Hartley was flown to the hospital, but died from his injuries early Sunday morning, according to officials.None of the deputies were hurt. The deputies involved are on administrative leave, as is practice with these types of situations, as the NCSBI handles the case.

Two Denton Police officers were struck Monday afternoon by another vehicle while they were sitting in their patrol car along Business 85 South completing the paperwork for a traffic citation, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
The officers, Cpl. J. Allen and Cpl. R. Basinger, received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported for treatment to Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center, said Master Trooper Ned Moultrie. Denton Police Chief M. Hicks said Monday night that Allen and Basinger have been released from the hospital.
The accident occurred at 1:03 p.m.
According to the report, the officers had stopped at 2017 Nissan driven by Tokunba Anumuda of High Point for allegedly speeding.
