An inmate died by suicide Wednesday night at the Davis County jail where he had been incarcerated for four months, according to the Davis County Sheriff’s Office.
His was the fourth suicide the jail has seen in the past year.
“We are distraught by this young man’s death and send our condolences to his family, friends and loved ones,” said Sheriff Kelly Sparks in a news release.
The jail had five suicides in 2016 and one in 2017. There were no suicides in 2018 and 2019, but there were three in 2020, according to data from the Sheriff’s office.

The Davis County Sheriff’s Office canceled an Amber Alert for a 2½-week-old boy that was issued Wednesday afternoon.
Police tweeted Wednesday night that “Baby Boy Torres . was found in Salt Lake County” on Wednesday evening. “Thank you to everyone for sharing the information and providing tips/leads.”

Owensboro’s new group of City Commissioners has been officially sworn in and is ready to hit the ground running this month. Owensboro Times recently talked to each one about what their goals for the commission are for the next two years.
Larry Magliner the new mayor pro tem and Jeff Sanford both retained their seats, and they’ll be joined by former commissioner Bob Glenn and newcomer Mark Castlen.
Magliner said he hoped to continue a successful pattern with the newly elected commissioners and alongside Mayor Tom Watson, who won his re-election bid.

SALT LAKE CITY An Amber Alert which was issued Wednesday afternoon for an infant boy who was abducted in Salt Lake City was canceled Wednesday night, according to a tweet from the Department of Public Safety.
Davis County Sheriff s Office said in a tweet that the baby boy had been found safe in Salt Lake County.
The infant, identified by police only as Baby Torres, was abducted from Salt Lake City, according to a news release from Utah authorities. Baby Torres was born on Dec. 20.
The Davis County Sheriff s Office identified Maria Ann Torres, 36, in connection with the abduction.
