Recall effort targets 2 Benicia school trustees; Vaca council may be next FAIRFIELD Two members of the Benicia School District board have been targeted for recall, and the county Registrar of Voters Office has received recall inquiries about the Vacaville City Council. John Gardner, the assistant registrar of voters, said Thursday the office is just waiting for proof that the notice of intention to circulate a recall petition has been published to give the final OK to collect signatures in Benicia. The trustees who are the subject of the recall are Sheri Zada, who represents Trustee Area 1, and Mark Maselli, who represents Trustee Area 4. Both have terms that end in 2022.

League of Women Voters hosts forum on race Shares Six local women will talk about their experiences as people of color in the Davis community at a free virtual forum from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 17. Presented by the League of Women Voters Davis Area, “I, Too, Am Davis” will explore systemic racism in Davis and efforts to promote equality and social justice. The moderated forum will begin with keynote speaker Sandy Holman, a nationally recognized leader in social justice, equity and anti-hate programs. Founder of The Culture C.O.O.P., an organization that helps people and organizations work on diversity in education, business and the community, Holman directed the documentary “The Cost of Darkness” and is the author of award-winning children’s books including, “Grandpa, Is Everything Black Bad?”

I’ve interviewed administrators, teachers, and parents, and now, I’m speaking with students from various grades throughout the DJUSD. This week you’ll hear from Harper Pfeifer and Henry Schumaker, who are 6th and 7th graders respectively, and on March 9, I’ll chat with two high school seniors who have had very different pandemic experiences, Emme Dunning and Daniel Engotto. In the youth advocacy and mentoring work I do, I believe it’s critical to hear directly from young folks, especially when they’re so deeply impacted by decisions that adults are making for and around them.
