Tyrone Powell, 40, was arrested when Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies served search warrants in Elkton and Cottage Grove on Feb. 26 following a five-month investigation. Powell reportedly scammed an elderly victim in Elkton out of 30.8 acres and a shop using the guise of a nonprofit called the Impossible Roads Foundation, which claimed to be building tiny homes for disabled veterans. Deputies said Powell assumed the property as his own after the transaction.

From The Tribune staff reports MCCALLA — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of two people in west Jefferson County after deputies witnessed what appeared to be a drug deal. Timothy Tyrone Powell and Darnell Bernard Bostic, Jr. were arrested on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021. Sgt. Joni Money said deputies with the Sheriff’s Neighborhood Enforcement Team spotted a possible narcotics transaction taking place around 3 p.m. The deputies attempted to block in two vehicles but one of the drivers intentionally struck one of the deputy’s patrol units, according to Money. “Both suspect vehicles then fled the scene,” Money said. “After a short chase, deputies were able to take two subjects into custody, one who stopped in the Bessemer area and the second near McAshan Drive in McCalla.”

2 Tuscaloosa men accused of leading Jefferson County deputies on chase, striking patrol cruiser Updated Feb 19, 2021; Two men are behind bars after leading lawmen on a chase and intentionally hitting a Jefferson County sheriff’s patrol car. The incident began at 3 p.m. Thursday when deputies assigned to the Sheriff’s Neighborhood Enforcement Team witnessed what appeared to be a narcotics transaction taking place, said sheriff’s Sgt. Joni Money. When deputies attempted to block the vehicles, one of the suspects intentionally struck one of the Jefferson County patrol units. Both suspect vehicles then fled the scene. After a short chase, deputies were able to take two men into custody, one who stopped in the Bessemer area and the second near McAshan Drive in McCalla. The deputy whose vehicle was struck was not injured.

Appellate court upholds Gallia convictions Powell GALLIPOLIS — On Thursday, Gallia County Prosecuting Attorney Jason D. Holdren announced the Fourth District Court of Appeals recently upheld two convictions from the Gallia County Common Pleas Court. According to a news release, on Dec. 20, 2019, Tyrone Q. Powell, III, of Gallipolis, Ohio, was convicted of Murder following the fatal shooting of Tyrone Powell, Jr., in Gallipolis on April 15, 2019. The Defendant was 15 years old at the time of the offense and charged in the Gallia County Juvenile Court. The Gallia County Prosecutor’s Office filed a motion to transfer jurisdiction of this case to the Gallia County Common Pleas Court for criminal prosecution as an adult. Thereafter, Powell was convicted and sentenced by Judge Margaret Evans to 15 years to life in prison. Powell’s conviction was upheld by the Fourth District Court of Appeals.
