Taipei, Feb. 9 (CNA) Myanmar students in Taiwan on Tuesday called on the Myanmar military to release State Councillor and de facto national leader Aung San Suu Kyi and restore the country's elected government, days after Suu Kyi was detained by the armed forces.

The demonstrators, wearing red shirts, held placards and Myanmar flags and called for the release of Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, who was detained by the military Monday, along with the country s President Win Myint and several senior government officials. Release Aung San Suu Kyi! shouted the approximately 400 protesters as they marched along Huaxin Street in New Taipei s Zhonghe District, where many immigrants of Myanmar descent live.
