Taipei, Dec. 18 (CNA) The Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO)-Taichung extension office will start downsizing its operations from Saturday due to difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, MECO Chairman and Resident Representative Angelito Banayo told CNA on Friday.
As a result, only labor-related services rendered by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration will remain available in the central city, Banayo said in a telephone interview.
All concerns relating to consular, notarial and assistance to nationals, as well as overseas absentee voting, will be diverted to either MECO s Taipei or Kaohsiung offices, he added.

Taipei, Dec. 11 (CNA) An agreement on the transfer of convicted and sentenced criminals between Taiwan and Switzerland took effect on Friday, according to a press statement issued by Taiwan s Ministry of Justice (MOJ) on Friday.
The agreement was signed separately by Reto Renggli, director of the Trade Office of Swiss Industries, on Nov. 13 in Taipei, and by David Huang (黃偉峰), chief of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Switzerland, on Dec. 11 in Bern, the statement said.
