Taiwan-Japan patent file wrapper exchange piloted

On 30 November 2018 the Taiwan-Japan Relations Association and the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association signed a memorandum of understanding on the exchange of patent file wrappers to facilitate the sharing of file histories and other relevant information sought by applicants and patent examiners between Taiwan and Japan. On 12 January 2021, after two years of preparation, the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) announced the pilot of a shared platform for accessing patent examination documents. TIPO s new platform will enable the public to obtain published or announced patent examination file wrappers for invention and utility model patents instantly. Users will be able to obtain the following information by entering an application number, publication number, patent number or European Patent Office worldwide bibliographic data number:

On March 11, 2011, a magnitude-9 earthquake struck northeastern Japan, triggering a tsunami that claimed about 16,000 lives. Following the disaster, Taiwan donated over US$240.04 million in aid, making it one of the largest providers of financial aid to the country. Hiroyasu Izumi, chief of the Taipei office of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association (JTEA), thanked the Taiwanese people for their support after the disaster at a thanksgiving and memorial event held at the association.

The messages, in Chinese, such as Japan-Taiwan friendship, Year of 2021, Peace and Blessings, Tokyo Olympics and Wish You Well. Go Go Go and We Will Work Hard Together rotated to flash on the skyscraper Saturday night. Ten other messages, chosen from submissions by the public, will appear on the skyscraper Sunday night. The message displays will be one of a series of activities leading up to the 10th anniversary of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that ravaged northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011, according to the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association (JTEA) Taipei Office, which organized the LED message event.
