China accused the United States of playing with fire with its plans to send its UN envoy to Taiwan next week, saying the move would create new difficulties for the already troubled ties between Beijing and Washington.
The visit from January 13 to 15 by Kelly Craft to Taiwan is seen by the mainland as the latest move by the outgoing administration of Donald Trump to further damage China-US relations and put US president-elect Joe Biden in a corner.

Taiwan welcomed the announcement of a visit to the island by US Ambassador to the UN Kelly Craft. The visit will take place from January 13th to the 15th and will be one of the Trump administration’s last swipes at Beijing.
A spokesperson for Taiwan’s Presidential Office said on Friday that the trip is a “symbol of the solid friendship between Taiwan and the US, and will positively help and deepen the US-Taiwan partnership.”

TAIPEI, Dec 23 ― Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen called on people today to keep calm after the island confirmed its first locally transmitted case of Covid-19 since April 12, as the government announced negative tests so far for the person s contacts.
Taiwan has kept the pandemic well under control thanks to early and effective prevention methods and widespread mask wearing, with all new cases for more than the last 250 days being among travellers arriving on the island.
