NPP to hold competition for new national emblem AUTHORITARIAN PAST: Ninety percent of people in a poll said they had trouble distinguishing the national emblem from the KMT’s emblem, the NPP said By Shelley Shan / Staff reporter The New Power Party (NPP) yesterday said that it would soon announce details of a design competition for a new national emblem, as the one currently used by the government is similar to the Chinese National Party’s (KMT) emblem. “The purpose of this competition is to raise public concern over the issue,” NPP Chairwoman Chen Jiao-hua (陳椒華) said. “We also hope that the Ministry of the Interior would listen to the public, and carefully evaluate the necessity and feasibility of changing the national emblem.”
