COVAX Facility Allocates Trinidad and Tobago an Initial 100,000 doses of the COVID-19 Vaccine Port of Spain, January 30th, 2021: Trinidad and Tobago has been allocated an initial 100,000 to 120,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine via the COVAX facility. This first allocation of the COVID-19 vaccine will be delivered to Trinidad and Tobago by March 2021. This announcement was made today by Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, Minister of Health, during the Trinidad and Tobago Medical Association (TTMA) Virtual Presidential Inauguration and Conferring of Honours Ceremony 2021. This initial allocation will provide vaccines for at least 50,000 persons as 50 % of the vaccines will be reserved to ensure that each recipient receives the required 2 doses of the vaccine.

Deyalsingh agrees on four measures to address Covid-19 infections at POSGH, no timeframe given Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh today discussed four main areas in a meeting aimed at reducing the risk of Covid-19 transmission at the Port of Spain General Hospital, in the wake of at least five infections at the facility over the past two weeks. Among the measures on the table were: utilisation of Covid-19 rapid antigen tests to test patients before admission; increased staff testing, especially in instances where they were potentially exposed to the novel coronavirus; reduction of the patient population to allow for increased social distancing; and increased nursing staff-to-patient ratio.

  th , 2021 – Today the  Minister of Health, the Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, a high-level Ministry team, and senior representatives from the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) met with Mr. Idi Stuart, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses Association (TTRNA) and Ms. Letitia Cox, 2 nd Vice President of the TTRNA, to discuss recent incidents of COVID-19 cases at the Port of Spain General Hospital (POSGH). Discussions surrounded four main areas aimed at reducing the risk of the transmission of COVID-19 at the facility: 1.    Utilisation of COVID-19 rapid antigen tests to: a.    test patients before admission b.    increase COVID-19 staff testing, especially in instances where they have been potentially exposed to COVID-19;
