Number of Cigars Smoked For Review: 3
While the original OpusX ForbiddenX 13 had wrappers that were noticeably darker and less red than the regular OpusX, this cigar’s wrapper is actually pretty close to regular OpusX. I’m pretty sure that most people wouldn’t be able to tell if this was rebanded as regular OpusX, though it too is missing some of the red hues. Some of that might be my eyes adjusting to the black band compared to the red band, but this is pretty close. These cigars weren’t stored in cellophane, though they are wrapped in a cedar sleeve. While the cedar takes up quite a bit of the wrapper’s surface area, it doesn’t seem to impart that much aroma into the cigar. I pick up a bit of cedar aroma along with something that reminds me of copier paper as well as sage. The foot is much more vibrant with wheat, floral flavors and pizza crust. 10-Year-Old Brick House Cigars Heading to TAA Retailers
This year’s TAA release from J.C. Newman is a trio of cigars that are anything but new.
Rather than creating a new blend for the Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA) Exclusive Series Program, J.C. Newman is releasing three sizes of Brick House that were aged for 10 years after rolling.
The company says it found the cigars while it was renovating its factory and headquarters in Tampa last year as part of its 125th-anniversary celebration. To clarify, these cigars were rolled in Nicaragua not Tampa likely at the San Rafael factory in Ocotal. Today, Brick House is rolled at J.C. Newman’s PENSA factory in Estelí.
Crowned Heads’ The Lost Angel TAA Exclusive 2021 Shipping Next Month
Last March, Crowned Heads announced its 2020 exclusive release for the Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA). Then, the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic began canceling events, including the in-person version of the annual TAA Meeting & Convention where orders of the cigar would normally be written.
In the end, the company did more than just delay the release; it’s now releasing a completely different cigar.
The Lost Angel 2021 is a 6 x 52 box-pressed cigar that uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over a Brazlian mata fina binder and Nicaraguan fillers. It is being made at Tabacalera Pichardo, the same factory that produces Juárez and Mil Días for Crowned Heads. For context, The Lost Angel 2020 was announced as having an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper and being made at Tabacalera La Alianza S.A. in the Dominican Republic.
