KARACHI: Wide scale irregularities in administration of vaccination in Sindh have come to the forefront, including administering the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine to people over 60 years of age, non frontline health workers and totally unrelated people, sources confirmed to The News.
The incident being widely reported in media regarding the administration of the Sinopharm vaccine on Saturday to the daughter and son-in-law of the former Sindh Governor and the spokesman for PML Vice President Maryam Safdar, Mohammad Zubair. The couple were administered the vaccine on Feb 6, at the Adult Vaccination Center of Ojha campus of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), by a deputy district officer of the District East. ISLAMABAD: The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Wednesday launched the immunisation campaign against the coronavirus across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The NCOC held the inaugural ceremony of National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme in Islamabad with federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar in the chair, flanked by National Coordinator of NCOC Lt Gen Hamoodzzaman Khan.
Commercial Minister Counsellor of China Xie Guoxiang was the chief guest while Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Hussain Chaudhary, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health Dr Faisal Sultan and SAPM on Poverty Alleviation Dr Sania Nishtar were also present.

The Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine’s first consignment containing 83,000 doses arrived at the Karachi airport on Tuesday evening.
The consignment was received by Sindh health secretary Kazim Jatoi, Project Director Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) Dr Akram Sultan and other officials at the airport, from where it was shifted to the EPI storage centre in the city.
“We have received the first consignment of the Sinopharm vaccine from Islamabad, which arrived here in Karachi on Tuesday evening through a commercial flight. It comprises 83,000 doses, and from Wednesday, the vaccination of frontline healthcare workers will commence at a ceremony,” an official of the health department told The News.

Sindh’s chief minister says he has written to P.M. Khan seeking permission to directly import coronavirus vaccines for his province
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday dismissed a widely reported spat with Maritime Affairs Minister Ali Zaidi, saying that he was elected by the Sindh Assembly and was answerable only to them, not the prime minister or any federal minister.
“According to the Constitution, I am answerable to the Sindh Provincial Assembly and to no one else, not [even] to the prime minister,” he said while addressing the inauguration of the Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility and Dow Institute of Life Sciences at the Ojha campus of Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi.
