“Parrots should not be in Tokyo,” writes photographer Yoshinori Mizutani of the hundreds of green parakeets that have nested in the city’s trees. He’s right: the birds are not native to Japan. They arrived in the 1960s and 1970s as part of the country’s trend toward purchasing exotic species as pets. The rose-ringed parakeets were brought in from their natural habitats in India and Sri Lanka, and when their owners found them too loud and unsuitable for domestic life, they simply let the creatures loose in the city to fend for themselves. Some of the birds were lost or broke free during importation.

Kazuya Masu’s reappointment as Tokyo Tech president authorized
After completing a presidential hearing on July 20, the Tokyo Institute of Technology President Nomination Committee has authorized the reappointment of President Kazuya Masu for a second term of office based on the provisions of Article 6, paragraph 1 of the National University Corporation Tokyo Institute of Technology regulations on selection of presidential candidates and removal of president.
In accordance with the provisions of Article 6, paragraph 3 of the abovementioned regulations, the hearing result, reasons for decision, and hearing procedure are as follows.

Reasons for decision:
As President Kazuya Masu’s current term of office ends on March 31, 2022, the Tokyo Institute of Technology President Nomination Committee conducted a hearing procedure regarding the potential reappointment of the current president as stipulated in the National University Corporation Tokyo Institute of
A chemical analysis team led by Hokkaido University researchers also began examining the samples using X-rays at Horiba Techno Service in Minami Ward, Kyoto City, a company specializing in research and analytical equipment. Hopes are high that the team will find the clues to one of the most perplexing mysteries of the world: the origins of life and the formation of the solar system.
Tomoko Numata, a member of the chemical analysis team and general manager of Horiba’s analytical technology division, expressed her excitement during the project’s kick-off event at its Kyoto headquarters on June 24.
“Analyzing the precious samples, which were collected through a meeting of the greatest minds, comes with great responsibility. I’m excited to have the privilege to analyze information that has been measured for the first time in human history.”
