Men s football Tottenham plan to allow fans on a non-executive board

TOTTENHAM have “unreservedly” apologised for their part in the European Super League and will have an elected fan representative on the board going forward. Spurs were one of the six English clubs who announced they were joining the breakaway league, only to withdraw 48 hours later after widespread condemnation from administrators, politicians and even royalty. The club say they regret their involvement but mitigate it by adding they joined under the impression that the format of the competition would evolve over time. A Tottenham statement read: “We have seen football fans around the world come together to show their strength of feeling regarding the future of the game we all feel so passionately about, with strong views expressed on the proposed establishment of a new European Super League (ESL).

The Left Wing The fight for a real say is what unites supporters

A PERIOD of protest has shaken English football as demonstrations of supporter strength have occurred across the country.  Momentum has been built on the back of the scuppered Super League proposals which showed what can be achieved through collective fan action. Demonstrations, dissent and dialogue have come in various different forms, but there have been common themes throughout which could provide at least some encouragement for the future of top-level football in England. Perhaps the most encouraging aspect of events in recent weeks has been that the biggest backlash has come not from fans of the other 14 Premier League clubs, but from the supporters of the six breakaway clubs themselves.

Men s football THST turn down chance to meet with Spurs chair Daniel Levy

TOTTENHAM Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST) have refused a meeting with club chairman Daniel Levy in the wake of the European Super League storm, demanding he and the board resign immediately. Spurs were one of six Premier League teams, alongside six other European clubs, to sign up for the ill-fated breakaway league, but were quickly forced to withdraw 48 hours later after significant backlash from fans, politicians and football media. Over 90 per cent of THST members last month backed a motion for the club’s executive board to resign following Spurs’ involvement while also laying out plans for a protest at the final home game of the season against Aston Villa.
