For many, Motherâs Day marks the unofficial start of gardening season. Itâs a common rule that planting should occur after the holiday.Â
For those looking to get their garden started, the St. Croix Valley Master Gardeners is here to help.Â
The group, made up of St. Croix and Pierce county master gardeners, serves as a source for advice and resources specific to the local area.Â
Itâs monthly meetings on various horticulture topics are open to the public. On May 27, the group will hear a presentation on caring for trees.Â
The groupâs annual plant sale will be Saturday, June 5 at the Octagon House.Â

A coalition of trade unionists, activist groups and students have used this year’s May Day to protest against the dismantling of Willow Grove, an 19
th century heritage building in Parramatta. Willow Grove is set to be relocated in favour of the construction of a second Powerhouse museum.
May Day, or International Workers Day, is a rally held annually to support workers and express solidarity to the labour movement. Though the event normally takes place in the city, this year it was held in Parramatta for the first time in its history. : Synairgen plc (LSE: SNG), the respiratory company developing inhaled interferon beta (IFN-beta) for the treatment of severe viral lung infections, today announces results from the Home Cohort of its SG016 Phase II trial of SNG001 in SARS-CoV-2 infected patients and data from the combined analysis of the Hospital and Home Cohorts.
SNG001 is a formulation containing IFN-beta for nebulisation, allowing it to be delivered directly into patients’ lungs. A number of studies have reported that the SARS-CoV-2 virus suppresses natural production of IFN-beta and prevents induction of anti-viral responses by infected cells. Furthermore, some people have deficiencies in antiviral IFN signalling that make them more vulnerable to spread of the virus from the nose into the lungs where it can cause severe breathing difficulties. These findings provide a rationale to deliver IFN-beta directly to the surface epithelial cells of the lungs, the primary site of virus infection in the lungs, to pr
Salisbury Crown Court A former social worker has been jailed, after she accessed data that she had no authorised reason to do so. Police say Donna Davies committed a serious breach of trust for the vulnerable people and children she worked with as a social worker. Her motive remains unclear, they say. She was sentenced today (April 30) following guilty pleas to a number of offences relating to the Computer Misuse Act, where she has accessed sensitive data that she had no legitimate reason to view. Sentencing her to ten month imprisonment, suspended for two years, and 150 hours of unpaid work, and hearing that Davies had lost her job, Judge Feest QC sitting at Salisbury Crown Court said: “There is no room in the social work field for those who cannot be trusted.”
