But the election of US President Joe Biden opens up an opportunity for the US to support the Turkish-Azerbaijan strategic partnership in what would only be a win-win relationship.
TURKEY AND THE UNITED States, two North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies with a checkered relationship, have agreed to jointly examine a Russian missile system that was captured by fighters in Libya. Turkish troops are present on the ground in Libya, where they are fighting in support of the United Nations-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli. The United Arab Emirates and Russia support the Tobruk-based Libyan National Army (LNA) of General Khalifa Haftar.
Last year, General Haftar led the LNA in a major offensive aimed at capturing Tripoli and ending the conflict between the two sides, which has raged for nearly a decade. A United Nations investigation has found that private military contractor Erik Prince violated a UN-imposed arms embargo on Libya by furnishing weapons to Haftar, the rebellious commander of the Tobruk-based Libyan National Army, in 2019.
