China to tighten steel capacity controls from June 1
China’s industry ministry will tighten steel production capacity swap controls in key areas suffering from air pollution under new rules taking effect on June 1, it said on Thursday.
The ministry’s swap system allows new steel capacity in China, the world’s top producer of the metal, to come online provided there are closures elsewhere.
The ministry also said that low-grade and outdated steel production capacity, as well as ferro-alloy smelting capacity, can no longer be swapped from June 1.

April 12 (Reuters) - China’s copper imports this year will match or even better the unprecedented levels seen in 2020 on the back of economic growth and a post-coronavirus rebound in manufacturing, an executive from state-run metals group Chinalco said on Monday.
Ma Huizhi, a vice president of Chinalco unit China Copper, said 2020 imports by top metals consumer China were 11.9 million tonnes on a copper content basis, taking into account inbound shipments of copper concentrate, blister, cathodes and scrap.
“It is expected that China’s copper demand and imports in 2021 will maintain the same level of 2020 and keep a minor increase with the gradual easing of the global epidemic,” he told the CRU World Copper virtual conference.

BEIJING, March 4 (Reuters) - Foreign visitors have been upset by China s anal swab tests for COVID-19, prompting complaints of inconvenience and even psychological trauma, and stoking debate over their necessity.
A few cities, such as the capital, Beijing, Shanghai and the port city of Qingdao require the checks, in addition to nasal or throat swab tests, for some international arrivals, state media say.
WHAT ARE ANAL SWABS?
The Chinese Center for Disease Control says the test is performed with a sterile cotton swab, which looks like a very long ear bud, that is inserted 3 cm to 5 cm (1.2 inches to 2 inches) into the anus before being gently rotated out.
