CALGARY Alberta has seen a drop in the number of new cancer cases being diagnosed during the pandemic, but doctors say that doesn’t mean people aren t developing the disease. “Cancer has not gone away, said Dr. Douglas Stewart, medical oncologist at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and senior medical director for the cancer strategic clinical network, Alberta Health Services. It is still really important to diagnose and treat in a timely manner. We are seeing decrease rates of cancer diagnosis related to the pandemic. According to Alberta Health Services, the number of new cancers diagnosed between March and October is 20 per cent lower than the same time period last year.
