Suffolk Countyâs sheriff, who is the head of a local Black law enforcement organization, is calling for Boston Police Commissioner Dennis White to be reinstated if the probe into a 1999 domestic abuse allegation against the cityâs top cop drags on.
âWe believe that Dennis White would be a good leader for the Boston Police Department,â Steven W. Tompkins, Suffolk sheriff and president of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives of Massachusetts, told the Globe Tuesday in a phone interview.

Boston police officers and FBI agents took to a Mattapan home Tuesday afternoon to execute a search warrant on the target of an investigation and found a significant cache of guns, drugs and cash, according to authorities.
Officers found 17-year-old Akeem Polimis of Dorchester suffering from apparent gunshot wounds inside the vehicle in Quincy. He was pronounced dead on scene.
