DOVER A large brushfire that burned about 15 acres near the old landfill on Sunday was still smoldering Monday. Crews were on site most of Monday to extinguish hot spots and trouble areas.
According to Dover Fire Chief Paul Haas, there were multiple reports of smoke in the area of Tolend and Glen Hill roads, but the thick forest made it difficult to pinpoint the source.
When crews identified the fire deep in the woods near the old Tolend Road landfill, it quickly was identified as a second-alarm fire. The department requested tankers and support from neighboring cities and towns, due to the area being difficult to access.
