After a more than eight-year battle, Washington Township will secede from Dover Area School District (DASD) to Northern York County School District (NYCSD).
On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court denied an appeal from DASD, and upheld the June 2020 Commonwealth Court ruling allowing the transfer Washington Township and about 220 students to NYCSD.
NYCSD released a statement on Wednesday saying in part ..In anticipation of this outcome, NYCSD has been in discussions with DASD and formed its own committee to discuss the mechanics and implications of the potential transfer. NYCSD administration is committed to working with DASD on a transition plan that is executed within the parameters of the Court’s decision and is in the best interest of the residents and students in both districts.

Pennsylvania-based retail chain Weis Markets announced Wednesday that it would begin vaccinating patients in 55 of its in-store pharmacies starting January 21.
The supermarket chain cited Center for Disease Control guidelines and state Health Department guidance to begin vaccinating patients aged 65 or older.

The state Supreme Court has refused to block Washington Township’s secession from Dover Area School District and union with Northern York School District.

Dover Area School District officials have hoisted the white flag of surrender after the state Supreme Court refused Wednesday to halt a plan for Washington Township to secede and join Northern York School District.
About 220 students in all grade levels will be involved in the shift. It could occur as early as this fall, district officials said.

Fifteen years ago Sunday, U.S. District Court Judge John E. Jones delivered his landmark Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District ruling: Intelligent design is not scientific, is religious in nature and therefore should not be taught as a scientific alternative to evolutionary theory in public schools. This was a big victory for science education in the United States. But that momentous trial in Dover, Pa., is worth celebrating for another reason.
In these divided times, it is easy to despair as the culture wars cloud nearly every public policy debate. The Dover trial, however, reminds us that science can cut through these differences. While the origins debate is often framed as a zero-sum game with religious creationism on one side and evolutionary science on the other, the space for common ground is large and growing.
