2 arrested in fight involving guns | News, Sports, Jobs

Feb 20, 2021 WARREN Two people were arrested on warrants after Warren police officers were called to a Westwood Street NW address Thursday night to investigate a disturbance involving guns. A caller told a dispatcher an argument ensued among a group of people; two with guns were threathening the others at the home. Four officers came to the home and two people came out, carrying the guns openly. The two cooperated with authorities, the report states. Officers had to coax three others to come out, the report states. Two of them, Crissy Lee Wortman, 39, and Jonah Mazzochi, 39, were arrested on active warrants from Warren Municipal Court. Wortman was being held without bond in a theft and endangering children case, while Mazzochi was wanted for a probation violation linked to a 2019 possession of a fentanyl-related compound conviction in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Drug case leads to at least 3-year prison term | News, Sports, Jobs

gvogrin@tribtoday.com WARREN A Howland man was sentenced to a indefinite sentence of three- to four-and-a-half years in prison in connection to a drug case, triggered by an August 2020 traffic stop where Warren police officers were looking for burglary suspects. Nicholas A. Gilmore, 31, of 7967 Raglan Drive, Howland, pleaded guilty to two counts aggravated possession of drugs and another count of possession of a fentanyl-related compound. Gilmore, who also has a North Road address in Niles, also faces aggravated drug-trafficking and possession charges in another Trumbull County Common Pleas case out of Bazetta Township. Judge Ronald J. Rice said any sentence that may come out of the Bazetta case will run consecutively to the prison term he gave Gilmore on Thursday. The next pretrial hearing in the Bazetta drug case is scheduled for March 15 before Judge Peter J. Kontos.

gvogrin@tribtoday.com YOUNGSTOWN A man who is serving a 21- to 26 1/2 year prison term for his part in a 2019 Liberty Township bank robbery now is indicted on federal charges in connection with a Nov. 6, 2018, robbery of the Lincoln Knolls Home Savings Bank. Dabraylin Hawkins, 25, who last gave authorities a Duncan Lane, Youngstown, address, is expected to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carmen E. Henderson today. A defense attorney wants the judge to reschedule a trial that was set to begin next Monday. Hawkins’ attorney Kenneth Callahan of Cleveland points to the large amount of evidence in the case and the fact that his law office has been closed as the reasons why the judge needs to postpone the trial.

Frenchko seeks new COG lawyer | News, Sports, Jobs

rfox@tribtoday.com WARREN During a Wednesday meeting of the Trumbull County Council of Governments, the new county commissioner questioned the choice of attorney the public body uses. The council of governments, or COG, was formed in 2018 and is made up of many county communities. The townships, cities and villages pay a small fee to join the COG and can petition for projects that utilize the shared resources of the group members. So far, projects mostly have included building demolitions that use the staff and equipment of the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office, for which the particular community reimburses the engineer’s office for, through the COG. The COG also is working on a joint program to test fire equipment for safety and effectiveness at participating fire departments.
