IT ministry prepares draft law for to protect Pakistani consumers

Federal Minister for Information Technology Amin ul Haq said on Friday that the ministry has prepared a Personal Data Protection Bill 2020.
The draft, he said, will be sent to the law ministry for a legal review before it is presented before the federal cabinet. The new legislature takes into account international laws and policies of social media companies. It has been drafted after taking recommendations from stakeholders.
The federal minister stressed that the bill seeks to protect Pakistani consumers as well as promote economic activities. He pointed out that under the newly-implemented social media rules, social media companies are required to set up offices in Pakistan. He added that the government is awaiting tech companies response.

The National Information Technology Board said Friday that after WhatsApp s new privacy policy comes into effect, it would share users data with Facebook.
Advising WhatsApp users on how to use the app after February 08 when the new privacy policy rolls out it said: Do not share sensitive information/ documents via WhatsApp at any cost. WhatsApp users will have to agree to new terms to continue using their services, it reminded people.

Govt of Pakistan has decided to develop its own messaging app along with the security features that will protect the privacy of users on priority basis. The app will offer all the modern and advanced features including messages, voice calls and videos.
The app will be developed by the Ministry of Information Technology and IT experts. For this purpose, the government has started consultations. Once the federal cabinet gives the approval, the ministry will start working on it.

It will be developed by the Ministry of Information Technology and IT experts.
The government has started consultations for the purpose and after approval from the federal cabinet, work on the project will start.
