Report into Cartier watches saga found ‘serious issues’: Communications Minister14/04/2021|10min
Communications Minister Paul Fletcher has told Sky News the Maddocks report into the Cartier watch saga found “serious issues” and any assertions otherwise would be incorrect.
Mr Fletcher said there has been a “lot of re-writing of history” in the past 24 hours including interpretations of the report which suggested no wrongdoing had been found.
“It’s not correct to say that did not find issues, in fact it found serious issues,” he said.
“It found very specifically that the rewarding of $20,000 worth of watches, of luxury watches, was inconsistent with the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act.

Sky News host Alan Jones has questioned why the prime minister bought into the outrage over the Cartier watch scandal involving “very talented” former chief executive Christine Holgate.
Mr Jones criticised the government’s handling of the issue including when Communications Minister Paul Fletcher said, “we need to take care of taxpayers’ money”.
“That was from a government that had run up $1 trillion of debt,” Mr Jones said.
“Christine Holgate s administration had brought in $66 million and when this happened, she had only been there for less than a year. She is very talented.
