Cox The Early Leader With 24-05 Haul
Thursday, July 29, 2021
By MLF Communications Staff John Cox of DeBary, Fla., weighed a five-bass limit of St. Lawrence River smallmouth totaling 24-12 to take the early lead after day 1 of the St. Lawrence River MLF Pro Circuit in Massena, N.Y. Cox holds a 7-ounce lead over Joey Cifuentes of Clinton, Ark., who caught five bass weighing 24-05.
I am in absolute shock to be leading this thing, Cox laughed after weighing in. Im not kidding this was probably the worst practice that I have ever had before. Coming into today I was thinking, If I can somehow catch 18 or 20 (pounds) and maybe catch a couple tomorrow I could get out of here with a check. And I would have taken that. Northern smallmouth ace Scott Dobson expects a lot of competitors to make long runs at the St. Lawrence River this week.
By MLF Communications Staff The 2021 MLF Pro Circuit regular season will wrap up this week with an event at the St. Lawrence River out of Massena, N.Y. Competition will be conducted today through Sunday, with the winner claiming a top prize of up to $135,000.
Competitors will have the run of the river, but will not be allowed to lock downstream into Lake St. Francis or run out into Lake Ontario proper. While this may be a hindrance to some anglers, those who thrive fishing river systems will have everything you could ask for in a northern fishery deep and shallow grass, docks, rock piles, current seams, sand flats, boulders and more.
