As Lithuania gears up for rolling out the 5G mobile network, proposals have been made to eliminate “unreliable producers and providers” from Lithuania s electronic communication market, says Defence Minister Arvydas Anušauskas.
According to the minister, the Communications Regulatory Authority (RRT) should be given more powers to evaluate local or foreign companies and infrastructure deals.
“Unreliable producers and providers should not participate in electronic communication activity in Lithuania, especially in building the 5G infrastructure,” Anušauskas told reporters at the parliament on Monday.
Amendments will be put before the parliament “soon”, he said, requiring that the RRT turn to a special government commission to evaluate whether prospective contractors comply with national security requirements.
