Federal program bringing broadband to Carroll County rural areas

CARROLLTON  Carroll County is receiving $4.1 million to bring high-speed broadband service into more rural areas of the county. It s part of the Federal Communications Commission s effort to provide broadband service in rural areas across the country. Ohio is slated to receive $170 million during the first phase of the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund program.  I view internet service as a necessity in these days, Carroll County Commissioner Christopher Modranski said. There are a lot of areas that are either unserved or under served. That has always been a talking point here. Four companies have been chosen to bring the needed upgrades to the county. CCO Holdings, also known as Charter Communications, of Stamford, Conn., is receiving the largest portion of the work as its share of the project is valued at $3.16 million. Charter Communications also is known by Charter Spectrum.

Delta, Fannin, Red River counties get FCC support for faster internet

More homes and businesses in Delta, Red River and Fannin counties will gain access to high-speed broadband internet through the Federal Communications Commission’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund Phase I auction, according to auction results released this month. The three counties combined are set to receive more than $3.61 million in support to expand access during the next 10 years, according to the results. The bulk of that support was awarded to CCO Holdings LLC, doing business as Charter Communications, which will receive nearly $3.03 million to serve 1,321 homes and businesses in Red River County and $166,915 to serve 480 Delta County homes and businesses.

Internet service expanding in local areas

Access to high-speed broadband internet is coming to an additional 3,066 locations in Somerset County and 3,557 locations in Cambria County. The improvements are a result of the Federal Communications Commission’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund Phase I auction. The results were announced Dec. 7 by the federal agency. Windstream Services and the Space Exploration Technologies Corp. were awarded funding of more than $2.8 million and $2.3 million, respectively, to expand broadband service in Cambria County.
