To guide learners and their parents as they navigate distance learning, the Department of Education (DepEd) launched a free online tutorial platform facilitated by expert educators.
Dubbed “ETULay,” the new learning platform aims to bridge the gaps and improve the quality of learning under the distance learning setup currently implemented this school year amid the continued threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“We have to come up with creative ways in modernizing our education system and it will require the upgrade of learning delivery through the full and creative use of technology in the digital age,” said Education Secretary Leonor Briones in a statement issued Saturday, Feb. 13.

As it starts with the second quarter for school year 2020-2021, the Department of Education (DepEd) said that it will continue to address issues in self-learning modules (SLMs) currently being used by students in the basic education system under the distance learning set-up.

While there were issues with the SLMs in terms of their content during the first quarter, DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio told the Manila Bulletin that “we addressed them and made sure that further materials would be quality assured.”
Due to the ongoing health situation in the country brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, DepEd is implementing distance learning as a major component of learning delivery to 22.7 million students who enrolled in public schools this school year.

The agriculture sector of Cebu, considered the ‘Queen City of the South’, will get an allocation of P454 million out of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) budget for next year.
This is to support the initiatives done to boost the agricultural output in the province, Agriculture Secretary William Dar said.

Right now, DA is poised to get P86 billion for next year, at least based on the budget allocation approved by the senate.
While this is way smaller than the DA’s original budget request of P280 billion for 2021, this is still higher compared to the agency’s actual 2020 budget of P64.7 billion.
