A detailed animation showing how a future light rail route beyond Burleigh might look has been released to coincide with the start of community consultation.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said major transport infrastructure projects like the light rail were an important part of the state’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan.
“We’re investing in public transport on the Gold Coast to create jobs, stimulate the local economy and take cars off the roads into the future,” the Premier.
“It’s thanks to my government that we’ve been able to deliver the first two stages of the light rail. We’re working on stage three.

Gold Coasters will get a sneak peek at detailed designs of a brand new train station in the city’s north being delivered by the Palaszczuk Government through Cross River Rail.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said major infrastructure like the Cross River Rail project was an important part of the government’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan.
The Premier said images released today were part of consultation on the design of the new Pimpama station starting today and running until August 7.
“My government is delivering new infrastructure on the Gold Coast to create jobs and stimulate the local economy at a time we need it most,” the Premier said.

Queensland will host the final game of this year’s NRL State of Origin series on Wednesday nightwith potential for a capacity crowd at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said securing major events that stimulate the Gold Coast’s economy was an important part of the state’s Covid-19 Economic Recovery Plan.
“No matter the result on Wednesday night, the Gold Coast will be the winner,” the Premier said.
“Local businesses were hard hit through the pandemic, so when the opportunity arose to secure Origin for the Coast, I grabbed it with both hands.

Subscriber only A TAXI driver says Gold Coasters are at risk of catching COVID-19 because drivers are allegedly failing to sanitise their cars after ferrying Victorians from the airport to hotel quarantine at Surfers Paradise. The driver, who does not want to be named, said drivers were not paid extra to transport Victorians to hotel quarantine and time spent sanitising the cab was lost revenue. The man said drivers were paid the same flat rate of $65 regardless if they were transporting a passenger from Victoria or a local from Bilinga to Surfers Paradise. He said subcontractors were also suffering a 50 per cent drop in revenue due to Victoria s lockdown.
