Organization Builds on its Veteran Programs
FRANKLIN –
For the first time in its five-year history, the national veteran and Gold Star organization Special Liberty Project, which expanded here in September, completed an onsite Vitality Retreat on its own property.
This weekend’s event launched the organization’s new monthly healing, nature-centric program specifically designed for Gold Star Widows at its Farm and Retreat Center in Franklin.
Six attendees, whose husbands gave the ultimate sacrifice while on active duty, travelled across the state to focus on renewing their own much-needed, personal mental and physical health after the death of their spouses.
A $10,000 contribution from the Naperville Park District pushes construction of the Gold Star Families Memorial monument in Naperville’s Veterans Park a little closer to its $77,000 fundraising goal.

This year, Deborah Bonacasa was Legislator Anker’s nominee for the Suffolk County Woman of Distinction Award. As established by Resolution 786-2002, every year in celebration of Woman’s History Month, each Suffolk County Legislator nominates a woman from their district to be considered to receive the county-wide Woman of Distinction Award. The recipient of the award is decided by the Suffolk County Women’s Advisory Commission and must be a woman who lives or works in Suffolk County and has a profound impact on the community through active volunteer work and leadership.

TAMPA, Fla. On Tuesday, family, friends, the Tampa Bay community, and fellow law enforcement officers from across the country will pay their final respects to fallen Tampa Police Officer Jesse Madsen.
There was much more to the hero behind the badge.
Madsen was a husband and father of three. He was a combat military veteran who served in the United States Marines and United States Army. His career spanned from 1994 to 2012.
He served three combat tours and was seriously wounded in an IED attack during one deployment.
