2021 NC Fine Wines Competition Results Announced Winston-Salem, NC, April 30, 2021 (PR.com) The Fifth Annual NC Fine Wines Competition results were announced tonight via Zoom with people from across the state and around the world. Due to COVID-19 concerns the Awards Ceremony, which is usually held in Winston-Salem as a Formal Black Tie Gala, was more casual and comfortable as guests sipped their favorite North Carolina Wines in the comfort of their homes.
The competition is seen as the toughest state competition in the country. One of the main reasons is the requirement for 100% NC Grown and Vinified Vinifera or Hybrid Grapes. This really helps people to discover the terroir and wines of North Carolina.

One of North Carolina’s oldest wineries is also the largest estate winery in the state.
Shelton Vineyards opened in 2000 when there were fewer than a dozen wineries in the state. It has grown into a destination winery, with a tasting room, hotel (Hampton Inn & Suites at Shelton Vineyards) and restaurant (Harvest Grill).
The more than 20-year-old vineyard covers 72 acres and includes a combination of grapes most drinkers have heard of – Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon – and a few that might be a little less known to mainstream drinkers – such as Tannat and Petit Manseng.
Symphony concert
Bluegrass stars Hank, Pattie & the Current will join Winston-Salem Symphony Chorus for the sacred liturgy in Carol Barnettâs âThe World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass.â
The concert will be conducted by symphony Chorus Director Christopher Gilliam and will be performed at Reynolds Auditorium. The bluegrass mass premiered in 2007 and blends the classical mass, modern choral sophistication, touching poetry and traditional bluegrass instrumentation.
Hank Smith and Pattie Hopkins Kinlaw combine bluegrass with classical, Motown and other genres to offer a twist on their music. They are backed by an all-star band of Carolina musicians: Stevie Martinez on bass and vocals and Billie Feather on guitar.
