When the Tazewell County Health Department was formed in 1970, the organization consisted of two staff members and operated out of a basement in the Tazewell County Courthouse.
“Chuck Skogley and his secretary, Sherry Diegel, were the only TCHD employees and issued septic permits only while in the courthouse,” said Evelyn Neavear, director of environmental health for the department.
Several moves and a half century later, TCHD now occupies a campus at 21306 Illinois Route 9 in Tremont. According to TCHD communications manager Sara Sparkman, the location in the geographic center of Tazewell County makes the department’s services more accessible to residents.

TAZEWELL COUNTY/WOODFORD COUNTY, Ill. The health departments of Tazewell County and Woodford County announced Wednesday they will soon be offering online scheduling for COVID-19 vaccine appointments.
No date has been attached to the start of online scheduling for Woodford County, but the Tazewell County Health Department (TCHD) said it will offer online scheduling at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5.
The appointments available in Tazewell County will be for Feb. 23 – Feb. 27 and will not be final until confirmed by TCHD via email, phone or text.
TCHD also said to be aware that appointments may fill quickly.
