July 16: 17 fires discovered - KenoraOnline: Kenora, Ontario s latest news, sports, weather, community events

Article continues below advertisement ↴ 17 new fires were discovered in the region by late afternoon on Friday, July 16 with more reports yet to be investigated, according to the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services. There are 95 active fires in the northwest region. Thirty-two fires are not under control, 10 fires are being held, 15 fires are under control and 38 fires are being observed. A total of 10 fires were called out today. The forest fire hazard is high to extreme across the district and the Restricted Fire Zone remains in place. The new fires discovered are; Nipigon 52 (20 hectares, not under control) and Nipigon 53 (1 hectare, not under control) are located east of Steel River Provincial Park, approximately 27 kilometres north/northwest of Marathon. The fires received air attack this afternoon.

Article continues below advertisement ↴ 13 new fires were discovered in the region by late afternoon on Thursday, July 15 with more reports yet to be investigated, according to the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services. There are 94 active fires in the region. Thirty-two fires are not under control, seven fires are being held, 25 fires are under control and 30 fires are being observed. Hard work from Initial Attack FireRangers saw a total of 11 fires called out today.  The forest fire hazard is high to extreme across the district and the Restricted Fire Zone remains in place. The new fires discovered are;  Nipigon 47 is located near Prairie Lake, approximately 46 kilometres north/northeast of Longlac. The 0.1 hectare fire is not under control
