Picture: ATU RASEA SOME residents in Cunningham, Tacirua, Khalsa Rd, Sakoca, Nadera, Nadawa and Makoi have been without water for up to five days. Femia Saurara of Cunningham Stage 4 said water supply stopped early on Monday morning but was restored yesterday. She said water trucks were delivering water to affected residents over the past two days. In some areas in Tacirua, residents said water supply stopped on Sunday. Alesi Vatucava and her daughters were waiting on the roadside when a team from The Fiji Times visited Tacirua yesterday but claimed like the days before, water trucks did not stop for them.

They claim water had not been delivered to their area since a landslide at the Wainibuku Reservoir caused disruptions to water supply last Sunday. Tacirua resident Nileshni Lata, 29, said as a mother of two, having no water posed a lot of problems. “Apart from needing water for the usual needs like washing, cooking and bathing, my mother-in-law is also a kidney patient and she needs to go to the toilet frequently,” she said.

Repair works on pipes that resulted in disruptions have been completed. The disruption was caused by a major fault on the Waila to Wainibuku bulk water mains. Chief Operating Officer, Seru Soderberg says their restoration team noted that fire hydrants in certain areas were opened this morning and this delayed restoration for other Fijians.
